Fitness Improvement: Must-Have Supplements Explained

Everyone has their opinion on best practices when it comes to starting a fitness journey.  But in a world filled with how-to methods and general advice, it can be difficult to decide which advice to take, and how to pinpoint which techniques will work best for you.

There is no doubt, that over the years, the fitness industry has expanded into something much greater than what it used to be.  Gone are the days of simply taking a vitamin to maintain perfect health.  Currently, with hundreds of supplements on the market and influencers pushing products on various platforms, weighing your options can be perceived as overwhelming to start.

But don’t completely block out those influencers, as many of the products that are popular online have shown that they can be beneficial towards aiding with your goals.

Here’s a listing of five popular supplements that are frequently used to optimize fitness performance.

  • Protein Powders Visually, these may all look the same. But logically, the consistency, taste, and texture vary depending on several factors.  Since protein powders come in a variety of forms and compositions, it’s best to do your own research before diving in.  This is important, as everyone’s experience with consuming protein powders is different.   While some people may report nausea and blemishes, there are others who may have no issues at all.  During your research, you will also want to consider how the protein powder will be used (drinks, muffins, etc.).  Some consistencies mix more smoothly than others, but it all comes down to a matter of preference. Just know that no matter which brand or type that you choose; you will still meet the objective of giving your body that added protein boost.
  • Pre-Workout Whether you need that burst of energy to push yourself through a workout session, or just something in general to get you through the day, pre-workouts deliver quite a punch. Gaining much popularity due to the convenience, pre-workouts are available in powder and liquid forms.  Although these products can provide you with an elevated feeling, please be mindful that accelerated amounts have been sited to pose as health risks.  Please be sure to read the product label for proper usage and to prevent over consumption.
  • Collagen Within recent years, collagen supplements have become more popular.  The effectiveness of this product is questionable, although it is said to have many benefits.  Some of which include improving the texture of the skin and fostering healthy growth of the hair and nails.   While it is true that our bodies produce collagen naturally, the benefits from taking this supplement are based on individual experiences. Results will vary for each person.
  • Magnesium Due to its various forms, it’s important to make sure that you are putting careful consideration into your decision of choosing of a Magnesium supplement.  Magnesium supplements can provide very distinct results, from a laxative to a sleep aid. However, this product brings forth quite a few benefits which include improved heart and bone health as well as mental clarity, just a to name a few.
  • Omega 3s   Most commonly found in fish, Omega 3 fatty acids have many health benefits.  When consumed daily, this supplement can help to improve the overall health of your heart, brain, bones joints and so many other things. Also available in various forms, this supplement is a staple for many.  When investing in the pill form of Omega 3s, be mindful that some people have reported burps and a fishy aftertaste.  But, that’s a small price to pay for your overall wellness.

While this list is only a small fraction of what’s currently available on the market today, hopefully it provides you with some insight as to what is out there.  As you can imagine there are many more products available, as the supplement spectrum continues to broaden.  However, I’m curious to know . . . what supplements are on your list?
